What is MariaDB?
MariaDB is a fork of the MySQL relational database management system from Michael "Monty" Widenius, one of the founders of MySQL AB, the company that originally developed and marketed MySQL prior to its acquisition by Oracle Corporation.
The intention of the creation of MariaDB has been said to keep it free under the GNU GPL.
