Data Editor - Work with Records

Most commands for working with records in a table present in the in the menu Record. 

Add New Record

You can add a new record to a table in your database using one of these methods:

  • choose command in the menu Record → New Record
  • press keyboard shortcut ctrl+”+”/cmd+”+”
  • click button “Add Record” at bottom

A new row appears in the grid and first editable cell is active for editing.

When you click RETURN or TAB the cursor moves to the next editable cell of this row.

To finish editing and save the record into your database, use one of these methods:

  • press CMD + RETURN / CTRL + RETURN
  • click by mouse into other record.

Edit a Record

To edit an existing record of table, click the cell you want to edit. The cell goes into edit mode.

  • existing values are highlighted and selected; if you start typing then a new value will replace old one.
  • if you do not want to delete the old value, you can press CTRL + RIGHT or CTRL + LEFT for Windows, or CMD + RIGHT or CMD + LEFT for Mac OS X. This will move the text cursor to the end or to the start of value correspondingly.

To finish editing and save the record into the database, then

  • press CTRL + RETURN / CMD + RETURN
  • click by mouse into some other other record

Delete All Records

To delete all records of the current Table using Data Editor, choose command in the menu [ Record → Delete All Records].



Delete Record(s)

This command allows you to delete one or few records at once.

If you have single record selected (it is marked also then) then this command delete it.

If you have few records marked then these records will be deleted

Go to Parent Record

This feature allows you to jump to a parent record using value of the Foreign Key or ObjectPtr fields. [Valentina Studio Pro]

You can use it in one of the following two ways:

  • open the context menu on the value of the FK or ObjectPtr field and select Go To Parent Record:

  • ALT + Left Mouse Button click on the value of the pointing field

Parent table will be opened with the filter row added for the key field.

This command works in the related table as well.

Update Multiple Records

This feature allows you to set a value to one field of all shown records.

This feature is available in Valentina Studio PRO or higher.

You can use it in one of the following two ways:

  • open the context menu on the value you want to set to all records and select Set For All Records (or Set For All Filtered Records if a filter is applied):

  • open the context menu for the target field and select Update Value To… and input the desired value:

Depending on the current mode, these actions will update:

  • all records of the table
  • filtered records
  • shown set of records, if some records were hidden

This command works in the related table as well.
