Hello There!

I'm using Valentina Studio together with a SQLite database and also testing the Pro-Edition creating a project.

My Question:
Where are the diagrams saved/stored?
Is it stored within the project?

Thanks
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

The diagrams are stored in the user's AppData folder.

For example
C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Paradigma Software\Valentina Studio\LocalData\Foreign

contains folders for databases where diagrams (or visual queries) were created.

The data.conf file includes all information about such objects.

Diagrams can be exported and imported.

Thank you for clearing this up!
So for using one diagram with multiple users would require exporting/importing with every change that is done!?

Yes, but previously they were stored in the database, so it was possible.
It required additional permissions, so we switched to storing diagrams in a separate file.
We would like to return an ability to work with diagrams for multiple users.
There are a few models of collaborative work we consider:
- saving diagrams in databases
- saving diagrams in projects on Valentina Server

But they are good for server databases.
And you are interested in diagrams for SQLite, without using a server, right?
Probably Valentina Server project can be useful in that case, too.

Personally I find the current storage location for the diagrams inadequate, because you don't find them.
Not bad if you work alone, but not good when working as a team.

Here using a project file approach would be better, even in conjunction with SQLite.

I would suggest you first of all, try to add the storage location as some info, so that it can be found more easily, if someone wants to transfer it.
BTW, the right click with storage location directs you to the database file (SQLite).

Another thing (off topic) are the numerous crashes I get, that spoil the workflow.

We appreciate feedback on how features work. What would be an ideal workflow for you and your team?

We'd appreciate it if you can submit these to our bugbase. The team always investigates those.

Workflow:
In the past I was working with MS SQL Server.
Currently we are working with SQLite, where we are beginning to test/select the programs/tools to be used.
So, at the moment the workflow is in development... :D

For using this program within a team, it should be possible that all members could efficiently work on the diagram.
A project that includes a database (maybe empty or testdata) and it's diagram would be helpfull, so that I can put that on a shared drive, so that others of the team can have a look or work on it.

Crashes:
I couldn't login to the linked page.
But when the crash-dialog pops up I click on "Send", I hope that is enough.
Most crashes where when using the SQL Diff functionality and it all crashed before being able to look at the Diff-Result.

Thank you, Stefan,

1. So, the SQLite database itself and a diagram (a separate file or project containing a diagram) are placed on a shared drive.
Is the shared drive a Windows network share or a cloud storage service like Dropbox?

To work with them safely, it is necessary to copy the files to a local filesystem.

Valentina Server supports SQLite databases, allowing multiple users to work with the same database. As we plan to add diagrams to projects, they will be available for collaborative work. Of course, this requires a separate running system.

2. Currently, the Valentina Studio Project file consists of queries, reports, forms, scripts, and datasources (not the databases themselves but references to databases on servers or paths to local files).
A project can be local or placed on the Valentina Server.

3. A fix for the SQLDiff crash will be available in the next build.

Thank you for your status report about this.
That sounds good to me!

A database could also be stored alongside with the database on a shared drive.
We have a company wide shared drive and we use Azure (which is basically a cloud service).
